Big Three Bailout - GOP Union Buster

Published by constitution at 11:56 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Christmas appeared to have come early for some GOP Senators on Thursday.  A frantic plea from Detroit for financial help.  The eyes of some Republican southern Senators sparkled with glee.  It looked like their dream of ridding the country of another nasty union was about to come true.

Conditions for a tax payer funded bailout came with strings attached and it was slapped on the backs of the auto workers.  Give up more concessions.  These Senators were not concerned about the welfare of the UAW and even if the union did make more concessions, it would not save the Big Three from disaster.

The thirty-five Senators who voted against the proposed bridge loan are gambling with the livelihood of millions of auto workers and related businesses.  A gamble that could affect three hundred million Americans by throwing us all down the drain with the bathwater.  This gamble could also create a ripple effect felt around the world with an oozing mudslide that filters back to the foreign auto makers located in our southern states.

Unions were created at the turn of the 1900’s to give a voice to workers as well as provide protection from unjust working conditions, health and safety regulations and fair wages.  What’s wrong with that?  Our elected officials are suppose to want the best for us.  Americans.  The advancement of American values and ideas.  How on earth can we remain the wealthiest nation if workers are all reduced to minimum wage?  Where does our tax revenue come from?  Big business who outsources our jobs and creates off shore addresses so they can escape paying U.S. taxes.

Does the no vote of the thirty-five Senators represent their concern for the tax payers, the foreign auto makers in their states or big business in general who have always disliked unions.

Maybe these politicians should go back in history and take a course in Hoover economics to understand the folly in their opposition to the auto makers and the UAW.  Thirty-five Senators saying no for what?  So they can pursue their own political agenda?  Whatever that may be.
